And it could also be argued that becoming a protector and guide to Nanashi is, in fact, his finally embracing the true essence of what a Samurai and Luxuror are supposed to be--regardless of what those roles can be and have been corrupted into, that's the idea of what they're supposed to be. I would argue that Navarre's character as a ghost is to finally live up to the ideals of his position in life, not to distance himself from it, so if anything, that's all the more reason for him to join Flynn's group--because it's the final culminating act of his journey to fully and properly embrace what his past was supposed to be.

Thanks for reading! It's a relatively niche rant, but I really like this one somehow, and it's gratifying to see it get a little attention. The RPGeniushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02752937839502693108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-268660459652553228.post-19720857109025480972021-11-22T18:57:22.129-08:002021-11-22T18:57:22.129-08:00I just finished SMT IV: Apocalypse the other day, ...I just finished SMT IV: Apocalypse the other day, and I basically agree with this point. I don't see Navarre's absence from Flynn's group as too much of a missed opportunity, though. Part of Navarre's growth involves him departing from his Samurai and Luxuror prejudices, so it could be argued that he'd be regressing if he rejoined Flynn and the others. But I wouldn't make that argument, and I would have liked to have the additional backup of Navarre in the fight, in addition to seeing things coming full circle.

As for why Atlus didn't do this, I'm guessing Atlus didn't want to take another party member from Nanashi (Isabeau barely counts, seeing as how she's the last one to join).

And I definitely agree about the mini-saga being weird, narratively. There were parts I preferred in each game, and I wish that only one game was made that combined the best aspects of each SMT IV.Adam E.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15301656119538410691noreply@blogger.com
